Tiny Dancer

April 30, 2008 at 7:48 am (Sketch) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m leaving for two weeks today to travel a bit in Europe, so before I go one last post :)

This one is a sketch I’ve made and painted in Photoshop later on.

When I started sketching I didn’t really know what will come out of it and I think I had these very young gymnasts in mind, that every time I see them I think of how hard their life must be and what a hard work it is to be perfect all the time.

so here is the raw sketch (sorry about the quality) and the final version….

Turn The Blues On

April 28, 2008 at 7:24 am (Music Inspired) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

A quick look through my posts will show that music has a huge influence on me and a lot of my work is inspired by songs (and books and movies…)

Tom Waits is one of my favorites with his husky voice and great lyrics.

This one was made in Photoshop (as most of them) and inspired by Waits’ song ,Alice (Lyrics below the picture), and Luke Chueh’s AMAZING work.

I kinda had the blues when I drew it and this song made me think of winter, cold streets, snow, goodbyes and a bunch of other stuff.

 Listen to sample from Alice

            Alice

(Tom Waits/Kathleen Brennan)It’s dreamy weather we’re on
You waved your crooked wand
Along an icy pond with a frozen moon
A murder of silhouette crows I saw
And the tears on my face
And the skates on the pond
They spell Alice

I disappear in your name
But you must wait for me
Somewhere across the sea
There’s a wreck of a ship
Your hair is like meadow grass on the tide
And the raindrops on my window
And the ice in my drink
Baby all I can think of is Alice

Arithmetic arithmetock
Turn the hands back on the clock
How does the ocean rock the boat?
How did the razor find my throat?
The only strings that hold me here
Are tangled up around the pier

And so a secret kiss
Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I’m dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I’m lost over there
And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
And by tracing it twice
I fell through the ice
Of Alice

And so a secret kiss
Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I’m dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I’m lost over there
And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
And by tracing it twice
I fell through the ice
Of Alice
There’s only Alice

The Good Bye

April 24, 2008 at 12:39 pm (Flash) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Animation post-Yeah!!!

This animation was my final project at the Art school.

I thought about doing something that will make people feel through these short few minutes so I wrote this story that rhymed and was really close to my heart.

I wrote it in English and not Hebrew (which is my main language) because from some reason it was easier for me.

The story and the storyboard went through many many alterations and major changes and eventually was rewritten to tie the loose ends of the plot.

I have to be honest and tell you that this film was one of the hardest things I’ve done (art wise of course) on so many levels that I was actually surprised when I’ve finished it.

Once I’ll have the time I’ll be happy to improve the animation but for now…that’s what I’ve got.

And for the emotional part:

A HUGE thanks to Tali Shapiro who donated her voice and time to this project and made me actually finish it in the best way.

So Taly, thanks a lot.

So here it is, hope you’ll like it feel it.

Photoshop Retouching

April 17, 2008 at 8:45 am (Photoshop Retouching) (, , , , , , , , , , )

There’s a debate going on about Photoshop retouching; Some say that the perfection of the retouched photos effects the minds of young girls and boys and their body image and self esteem.

I guess I can agree with that but not entirely. I can understand the need in aesthetic and beautiful images in order to sell a product.

That said, I wouldn’t retouch a photo of myself and post it somewhere, I could do it for fun but not without declaring about it (or if the changes are REALLY minor). The reason is just because it feels like cheating to me. I mean, I always think “OK, I’ll retouch it but what if someone who saw the photo will meet me in real life (not likly to happen, I know) they wouldn’t even recognize me”.

So here are some RETOUCHED peaces that were made out of bad photos or just for the heck of it:

This one was a simulation to see how a different hair color will look (and some make up):
